I agree with everyone else, you should wait. I don’t have a Christina piercing but I’ve had a triangle piercing for 6yrs, and I always take my jewelry out before hitting the pole. Makes certain tricks (i.e: superman) less uncomfortable, lol. With a new piercing, it takes at least a few months of healing before you can take them out and leave them out for a Lil while, then put it back in easily… 🙂 hope that helps.

MemberFebruary 3, 2015 at 3:49 pm in reply to: Really small hands- Buy a 40mm as a second pole???I don’t think you should give up on the 45mm just yet. I’m similar in stature (5’3″, 100lb, sz 4.5 ring) and although my hands don’t wrap all the way around, that’s never held me back during practice… maybe bc I learned on a 50mm at the studio, idk. My 11yo stepson (and occasional pole-buddy) has even smaller hands than me and he manages ok. ^^
As others have mentioned, the 45mm is the industry standard for a reason- it’s suitable for almost any tricks, and doesn’t make any tricks exceptionally difficult. As you learn and improve, you might not want learning new things to be any harder than it has to be.
However, if you can afford it, you could try the 40mm out for yourself and see how you feel about it. No one’s advice can tell you with 100% certainty how you’ll feel on a 40mm. Maybe try to get a used one, and have the ability to re-sell with minimal, if any, out of pocket cost.

My home pole gets cleaned before practice, after practice, and during practice as many times as necessary (when I notice it getting the slightest bit slippery or residue-ey I wipe it down w/ degreaser).
At the studio, most everyone has the same protocol. There are plenty of spray bottles of rubbing alcohol for girls to use.
Hope that helps 🙂

My pole lives in… My entryway. This is not what we planned when we bought this house but that’s where it’s ended up. My living room and master bedroom have amazing 15′ vaulted ceilings and that’s where we put it first (13′ in the bedroom). But once we got moved in and built our bed frame there was NO room in there so I had to move it. I wanted to put it in the living room but its next to impossible to get to the studs in the attic (to put a support for the vaulted ceiling mount)… So here I am in the entryway til we figure something out LOL. x)

@aerialgypsy: thanks for sharing your blog post! That is such a genius idea they had, to have toe and arch supports built-in. I need all the support I can get after a foot injury last winter, but putting a dr scholls insole in open toed stiletto sandals is NOT sexy haha!

I hope someday pole doesn’t carry such negative stigma. It’d be nice to just tell people I pole, not have to slip in, “I pole RECREATIONALLY OF COURSE, NOT FOR MONEY”. Lol. x)

@nachashlsis: WOW that’s crazy! I have to try that! 🙂 is it most effective when the bruise is new, or can it work at any time during the healing process?
-
I hardly ever bruise anymore. This prolly sounds crazy but I miss them! They’re like.. temporary battle wounds that prove my awesome skills. x) the only place I still get bruises often are on my feet.

MemberMay 26, 2014 at 9:42 pm in reply to: What moves do you struggle with that you should be able to do easily?Tricks from my beginner class (1yr ago) I still cant do: titanic, caterpillar climb.
Other tricks I still can’t do: cross ankle release, Cupid, extended butterfly, aerial body waves, flagpole..
I feel like I’m forgetting a bunch, ill probably remember them after I post this tho haha. 🙂
I know practice makes perfect and that’s the only way to master them, but in an effort to avoid discouragement, I just get really good at other things. Once in a while ill make a casual attempt at one or two. “Still not happening? Ok then. Moving on..” Lol. Sorry I don’t have much helpful advice, girls!

I DEFINITELY started from scratch. Zero experience in dance or any other sport. Literally haven’t danced to a single song in my life (not even at prom lol). Actually one of the reasons I started poling was bc I knew I’d suck at it and it was 100% outside my skill set. 🙂

I have an xpole xpert 45mm chrome and I’ve had this problem ever since I got it (almost a year ago). Super discouraging!!! But I think I just discovered a reliable fix! I just tried and fell in love. (Medium worked best for me) That plus mighty grip has given me grip beyond my wildest dreams lol. Nice bonus: the residue it leaves on the pole seems to make it even grippier! And as for cleaning it, the best thing I’ve tried is degreaser (we use “purple power”) and those blue shop paper towels. Idk why rubbing alcohol and plain ol rags seem to work great at the studio but not so much at home. I knew there had to be a magical cocktail of remedies to fix this problem, and this will work for now.
Not saying this will work for everyone but its suitable to my skin and climate.

I’ve gotten all my fav shorts from Justice (the kids clothing store). Their “oh so soft boy shorts” come in a million super cute colors and prints. They also have ones that are specifically for dance, which are higher in the waist and “longer” (still as short as shorts can be, but your booty doesn’t hang out lol). All the other places I’ve found good shorts at have been discount stores (dd’s discounts, Burlington, etc) and at the local flea market. I’ve seen ones with higher waistlines at both.. Some specifically designed for “tummy control” and some just cut more modestly than others. I’d just suggest trying them on first, bc some of the cheap ones get see-thru when you put them on. Cute, practical pole shorts don’t have to cost a lot of $. 🙂

I am thin but have cellulite also 🙁 I use nivea’s “goodbye cellulite” gel and serum and it helps a TON (esp the serum, although it can be a little greasy on the skin it does instant wonders). I’m sure any exercise you do (poling or any other activity) will help also. I used to be about 80lbs heavier than I am now and am in the best shape of my life. I know at this point, though, I probably have to just accept the little bit of cellulite I still have.
I think it’s also helpful to choose flattering clothing that you feel comfortable and beautiful in. When you feel confident and sexy and you KNOW you look damn good, you hardly notice your little “flaws” (and usually, no one else notices them at all!). Good luck, and congrats on your baby! 🙂
