Congrats! The Iguana mount is so intimidating!
In regards to your comment about gaining more flexibility so you can start closer to the pole before bringing your legs up (I know there’s a way to take a quote but I’m not sure how to do it): I remember my teacher talking about it and she said that if you are bringing your legs up in a v, then (while your spine is flush against the pole) your legs need to have a bit of distance from the pole. But if you’re mounting by tucking your knees into your chest and then lengthening them up, then it might not matter.
Good job on learning a new move! -
Funny, one of my pole teachers was just talking about that yesterday. She said that when you’re just starting pole, you tend to grip the pole for dear life (aka "the death grip"), and that’s when you get pole burns because your wrist is stiff due to the grip. Once you progress and get more confidence and gain strength, the grip loosens up. We do some "pole holds" as warm up to help with that:
stand right behind your pole (belly can touch)
MAKING SURE YOUR SHOULDERS ARE DOWN AND BACK (VERY IMPORTANT)
grip the pole using baseball grip
engage abs
come onto your toes
bend one knee, then the other
then slowly release grip so you gently slide down to your knees
repeat and make sure you switch which hand is on topI’ve tried using wrist bands because I think they look cool, but they’ve never worked for me.
I hope this helps a bit. -
I go to the salon for the FULL wax. I don’t go for the Brazilian because my tush isn’t particularly hairy and the whole idea of it kind of makes me laugh. When I lived in Miami Beach, it was so common, so main-stream that no esthetician would even blink an eyelash. And so therefore, it was cheap. I went to a very inexpensive place that charged $20 for a bikini wax. They would sprinkle baby powder on you, spread on the wax, fan you to quickly dry the wax, tear if off (usually painlessly), and then immediately apply some pressure to alleviate the "sting". 10 minutes later, I’d walk out as bald as the day I was born! It really didn’t hurt at all. BUT, if I went in when I was premenstrual, it definitely hurt more. And for the first week or so, I’d rub Rescue Remedy all over the waxed area and have NEVER gotten an ingrown hair. There is also a product called Tend Skin that’s supposed to prevent ingrowns but I’ve never used it so I can’t vouch for it’s validity. Many of my friends (with better bank account balances!) have been raving about laser hair removal. It’s very expensive, but they all say it’s worth it. It’s "permanent" but you will probably have to have touch-ups. Supposedly there is a "rest period" in between laser removal sessions, so it’s a real investment both in money and time. If I were to win the lottery, I’d definitely give it a try. But until then, I’m very happy with waxing!

Most often we are alone when we practice and try new tricks or simply dance. I know that I am always my worse enemy and I’m a zillion times harder on myself than anyone else could possibly be. Would it be possible to start a pole club or group with a few like-minded people? That way there’s immediate support and encouragement and understanding. Also, one thing that I’ve been working on is: I don’t have to be the best pole dancer in the world! I can do this to express myself, get stronger, and have fun. I’m not sure what your aspirations are, in terms of the pole, but you can bet that 99% if recreational golfers know that they’re no Tiger Woods, but still go out there because they love it. I’m not sure of any of this makes sense, but I was just doing the dishes and these thoughts came into my head. Thanks for listening!

I wanted to totally quit a few times myself–and I’ve never even gotten up the nerve to post a video for anyone to make rude comments. Maybe just give yourself a break, without making any decisions about whether you continue or not. For all it’s worth, I think you’re great and that you really add a lot to this forum AND I think you’re sexy as hell. Your videos really show off your beauty and confidence. All those with negative comments are really very unhappy people who want to squash someone else because they think it makes them feel better. They’re wrong–it only show the world how sad they are. You’re gorgeous, inside and out.

I’m sure the advanced girls will have loads of great advice-everyone is really helpful here. But I swear it gets less painful over time. There are lots of times I can’t get that grip with my thighs and I slide right down the way you’re describing. When I REALLY can’t get it, I shrug it off & try again the next day. Sometimes it’s more about your body chemistry and the weather than strength or technique. I’m sure you’ll be writing about your success in no time at all.

I also had problems with sitting on the pole. A couple of things helped me: 1) cleaning the pole, 2) warming up the pole (did lots of spins beforehand), 3) wearing supershort shorts, and 4) internally rotating my thighs. Once I’m there, I sit there until my inner thighs start shaking! I hope this helps a bit. Good luck!

Yay! Congratulations! STILL working on my caterpillar. I’ll get it some day!

How about catching the pole in a crossed knee grip and then coming up? It’ll feel a lot more secure than crossed ankle grip. I’m gonna have to try it today to see if it would work for me, too! I really admire you for doing Iguana by yourself. I’ve never even thought of attempting it without some sort of spotter!

That was totally awesome! Great job!

Congrats on your video! I can’t wait to see it. But when I click onto it, it says it’s "private". Is it only for certain people to see?

Well if you chicks run off to Vegas for a crazy weekend, DEFINITELY let me (and Trixie) know, as we both live here!
