I’ll break this move down into steps, covering a few variations for this move. Thick yoga mats can make working on this more comfortable. Type: FLOOR WORK

Responses

  1. Thanks for the advice Veena . It might be positioning as I am generally flexible. How to go from here? Keep positioning till it’s right ? Or can work on other a few things which can help this one?

  2. Try making sure your placing the arm that is under you far enough out to the side..you don’t want it directly under your body. So play around with that and see if it helps.

  3. I love the backward shoulder roll and its variations. Though I find the control difficult in the shoulder stand and never wanted to work on it. But, I just watched a YouTube clip where Karol Helms rolls forward over her shoulder and somehow makes it look sexy, so now I am inspired to work on it again… hope I don’t break my neck.

  4. To take pressure off the shoulder make sure your pressing more through the arms. You may need to adjust the bottom arm out farther from your side. Think of pressing with that arm and the opposite hand more than resting on the shoulder. 🙂

  5. This is an advanced move, I suggest having a solid elbow stand first. Everything on sv is placed in an order that allows you to build up the strength and technique needed for more advanced work. 😊

  6. Hi Veena, sorry but i seem to have constant silly questions for you – please bear with me. 🙂
The “Shoulder Roll” it is basically “Backward roll”? while the “Shoulder Stand” is a “Forward Roll” ?
At class, the instructor taught us a “Forward Roll” starting lying flat on your belly, but also ending in the same position ( lying flat on belly) I have issue doing this move, do you have any video in the lessons that I can view? Thanks.
P.S your lessons been wonderful help me understand and improve so much! Thank you!

  7. I get what you’re saying I think….You want help with the forward roll? Try the Forward Lateral Shoulder Rolls lesson in the floorwork section. It’s pretty much a forward roll but to the side! I hope that helps!
