Having a solid Scorpio and Jade/hip hold will be very helpful when you begin to train for this trick. I’ll teach you two methods of entering into this move so you can choose which one works best for you.

Scorpio

Hip holds

Torso twists

Sitting twist

Diamond stretch

Sitting pike stretch

Strengthens: HANDS / OBLIQUES / ERECTOR SPINAE

  1. Still a long way from doing a move like this, but i just love watching the new lesson format!!!
Straight the point now, much easier to watch. We can keep watching you do the move, while you explain the important parts! Love it!

  2. I. Love. You.

Thank you so incredibly much for doing this lesson. I had this and Jade, stopped practicing them and lost weight, gained strength and flexibility before taking them up again and now I just can’t do them without falling. Your POC, the slow motion, explanations and options fill in all the gaps I could have… they make me feel confident to try again.

  3. Oooooh, so pretty!! I was hoping for a lesson on the Allegra, this is next on my list – once my inner thighs forgive me the superman… Love how you explain the different ways of getting into it, from hip hold makes a lot of sense, but I will try both!!

  4. Veena, when I do this, it feels like I”m going to bust a rib or something! Am I not arching my back enough (I just realized I didn’t thank about that) or is the pole in the wrong spot? I’ve been doing it from flatline scorpio I think I will video myself attempting to do it from several angles and then you can see if there’s something wrong going on! xxx

  5. The pole should be very close to the hip, so use whichever method allows for that. Arching the back does help. You will need to have flexibility in the hip flexors as well in order to open up the hip and allow the back to move around the pole and stay off the ribs. let me know when you get the vid up

  6. Is the inner upper thigh supposed to hurt intensely?!? I feel like I have to firmly press my inner upper thigh to the pole to get any kind of support. Is this correct? Or should it be a light hold on the thigh? I have a wonderful set of bruises on this upper inner thigh right now from trying to get this move. Where does MOST of the support for holding this trick come from?? The Hands? Help 🙁

  7. The hand will have most of the support…BUT you will be pressing your leg into the pole, there is no way around that, because you have to reach the arm around the leg to hold. 🙂 Like all pole work, the pain gets better as you become more comfortable with entry and exit of a move.

  8. I tried this yesterday and it was SO HARD to keep my hand on the pole the one that is wrapped around the leg, but my instructor didn’t show us either versions. We pretty much went to an invert, scorpio, and then tried to get our arm around the pole. I’ll try this. We have a male instructor so clearly he does things differently.
