Today you’ll learn how long a pole should be held. I want to remind you, don’t forget to breathe! Holding your breath tends to cause you to rush through movements. By making a conscious effort of slow, steady, breathes can help you hold the pose longer and reduce dizziness. Remember you can pause the drill tutorial at anytime to allow yourself to work on extra spins if needed.

Use the listed Performance climb and Sit or choose whatever moves you’d like as long as they are upright moves! You can find beginner moves here.

Here are the spinning pole timestamps for the listed tricks Performance climb 3:24 Pole sit 3:34

  1. Great lesson! SLOW DOWN!! Even when I think I’ve held a pose long, I look at my recording and it wasn’t long at all. I will continue to count and try and hold each position for 8 counts.

  2. Counting out loud was a really helpful tip. Not only does it really help you focus on holding poses for longer, it does help distract you a little from being dizzy but even more than that, I found it helped me control my breathing because I was doing it out loud! I was a bad girl and didn’t stay upright. Sorry not sorry. 🤣

  3. I feel this is the most important lesson I have had in the past 4 months. I just started spin (did static only for all my beginner classes) and the hardest thing is to slow down (not just my moves but my pole!). I watched this video like 100 times to see how your body goes from one move to the next. When I go from climb to the sit, I must get to close to the pole as I start to spin out of control. I will practice this lesson, over and over until I can do this right before moving on. My question is, as a novice to spinning pole, is my issue normal? I first blamed my xpole for being too spinny (have nothing to compare it to), but I think its a skill thing. And I need to learn to control my pole spin with my body. Do you have any other lessons on controlling your momentum on spin pole? And thank you for great lessons!!

  4. YES, this issue is normal for sure. To make spin look smooth and maintain momentum without going crazy, requires holding everything longer than you would think, then move into the next pose like a sloth lol
