This move requires some flexibility and time. Even if you already understand the Jade/Hip hold split, working on this half variation can improve the full version dramatically. Always try both sides.

Tuck hip hold

Lunge

Lying hip flexor stretch

Knee tuck

Also known as: HALF JADE / THE DUCHESS

Strengthens: ADDUCTORS

  1. Every time I try this and I go to extend the outside leg, it feels like the pole is going to damage my ribs. I make sure the pole is right above my hip bone, but the pole ends up against my ribs when I go to extend the leg. What am I doing wrong?

  2. This is one of Rhodes moves that isn’t right for everyone. However the size of the pole can factor into if it pressed into the ribs. What size pole do you have?

  3. Oh, Thanks Veena!! So, it isn’t that I’m doing something wrong necessarily then? Is doing the full Jade different than this? Or, if I can’t do a half hip hold on a 50mm, then I better not try the Jade?

  4. It would be the same when doing jade or Allegra. You could try pushing your torso up as high as possible with one hand. This may give you the clearance you need

  5. Hello Veena I’m working on this move but my bended leg feels better resting my feet in the pole I mean like stepping on it, is it like cheating? Jaja or could be a different position ?
