In this exercise, you're moving the leg, but to get the most out of this, your hips need to stay still. Don't twist the hips either! Working with this exercise will help improve leg lines and build core control.
Suggested sets and reps: 8-15 reps, 2-4 sets, 3 times per week.

I really like this for conditioning my hip. My hip joint on the right side gives me a lot of problems if I overstretch it. I’m not technically hyper mobile, but am more flexible than I can maintain with good muscle control, if that makes sense? So for example, I may be able to fold forward/touch my toes, but gravity does most of the work and eventually my hip will start aching. I have a PT I work with and also do strength training three times a week that focuses on functional movements, so I’m headed in the right direction. Applying what I’ve learned about mobility and strength, it seems like exercises like these leg circles are a good opportunity to increase range of motion while focusing on maintaining an engaged core. If I’m correct, I hope to see my circles get bigger while also keeping my lower back on the floor and hips neutral. It’s a good way to add guardrails to my mobility, making sure it stems from muscle control, if that makes sense. And if I’m understanding healthy movement in general!
Yes! You’re definitely on the right track. This is a great exercise for that purpose. If you’re interested in more in-depth joint training I have 2 routines. One for upper and one for lower body. You can find them here JOINT HEALTH ROUTINES https://www.studioveena.com/curriculum/bonus/veenas-classroom/
I had my strength training class this morning, the instructor is also a PT and she also said this is a fabulous exercise to balance overextension. You are a genius!
That’s awesome! ? I hope it was a good workout.
