POLE – ELITE: I’ll demonstrate a few methods of entry and exits for this common trick which I’ve listed as Elite, not because it requires super strength or flexibility but because your limbs are threaded through each other and the Tornado requires a solid knee pit grip.

Sneaky v floorwork

Gemini climb

Brass monkey

Tornado

  1. Hi Veena, I have no problem with the floor sneaky V but when it comes to doing that on the pole from the genie, I feel insecure! I think that’s mostly because I was using a cup grip for my top hand…I don’t ever use a cup grip for my top hand in split grip! However, that’s what you used in your lesson, correct? Is there another grip that would work with this trick? If not, how can I overcome my fear? (when I was doing the floor sneaky V, my top hand was in a cup grip but because I was on the floor, I felt secure) Thanks!

  2. if you feel secure on the floor then it’s more than likely a mental block. However, check that you are creating enough of an angle away from the pole before you release either leg, the body should rotate around the pole before you release the legs. You don’t stay in the same position, like in genie, you move out from genie.

  3. Thx for the reply, veena! I think I know why my hips wouldn’t move an inch from the genie – it’s cos my bottom hand is grabbing in front of the pole when it should move behind (with my head) and grab behind the pole (or a bit too the side) …gotta try that again! Thx
